Three things keep you steady
Stability in a sandal comes from what is under the foot and what holds the foot in place.
A rubber outsole with a deep tread
Thermoplastic rubber, cut deep. It bites into rock, gravel and wet stone, and it takes the abrasion so the softer midsole does not have to.
Three straps hold the foot
Across the toes, over the instep and behind the heel. Set them once and the sandal stops moving on your foot. That movement is where most sandals let you down.
A sole that flexes with the ground
The sole bends. A flexible sole keeps more of the tread on uneven ground, and that contact is where balance and grip come from.
And three things keep you comfortable
Stability gets you across the rock. Comfort is what you notice at four in the afternoon.
Arch support
An EVA midsole moulded with arch support. Standard arch support, the kind most feet want for a full day, rather than an orthotic.
Cushioned heel pad
Your heel rests against something soft instead of webbing, so a long day does not turn into rubbing.
Soft webbing, set to your foot
Recycled polyester webbing that softens with wear, adjusted at three points. Wide feet fit. Narrow feet fit too, with a little strap to spare.
Heel-to-toe drop
4 mm. Close to flat, so your foot sits the way it does barefoot, with cushioning under it.
Weight
255 grams per sandal, 510 for the pair.

The questions we get about stability and comfort
Answered by Cam, with the owners who said it better than we can.
Will it hold on wet rock?
Yes, within reason. The TPR outsole has a deep tread and the sole flexes so more of it stays in contact with the ground. Wet, algae-covered rock will test any shoe, so we are not going to promise you cannot slip.
The sole is SO soft and comfy, yet keeps me stable, these sandals even helped me recover after a leg injury. The grip on the ground is also great.
Pamela K., verified buyer, Sage
Is the arch support real?
Yes. The EVA midsole is moulded with arch support and there is a cushioned pad under the heel. It is standard arch support: enough for most feet over a full day, and plenty of customers with flat feet wear them. It is not a medical device.
Do the straps rub?
Not in our experience. The webbing softens with wear, and you adjust it at three points. If you feel rubbing on the first wear, loosen the straps a touch and let them settle. Helen S. gave four stars and this advice.
I would recommend only doing short walks in these until you have the straps adjusted to the right fit

Can I walk all day in them?
Most owners do. Everyday wear is the most common use owners report, ahead of hiking and holidays. Simone bought hers for a Great Barrier Reef trip.
They're amazing – I walked over 20km in a day. They far exceeded my expectations and look good enough to wear anywhere.

Where we broke them in
Sick of stuffy hiking shoes on warm-weather walks, we set out to make footwear that was airy and still up to real trekking, with arch support that lasted the day. Research, prototyping and testing led us to the three-strap design: stability, traction, cushioning and breathability in one sandal.
Then we broke the first pairs in on the steep rocky trails of Mount Amos in Tasmania's Freycinet National Park, at the height of summer. They aced it, and they have been on our feet at airports, around town and on trails ever since.

Customer reviews: stability and comfort
★★★★★
“Durable, quick-dry materials, easily adjustable in three 'dimensions', perfect fit even for my very wide feet... No blisters or scratching (when properly adjusted). The sole is SO soft and comfy, yet keeps me stable, these sandals even helped me recover after a leg injury. The grip on the ground is also great.”

“The adjustable strapping is generous and copes well with my wide flippers. The sole is so light and flexible, you barely notice you're wearing anything. They look great too.”

Good at, and not good at
Good at
Rough ground. A deep TPR tread and a sole that flexes to meet it.
Long days. Arch support and a cushioned heel keep them comfortable at the end of a full day of walking.
Wide feet. Three adjustment points, and wide feet are the thing reviewers mention most.
Water. River crossings, rock pools and beach days. They dry fast.
Not good at
Ankle support. There is none. If the route needs a boot, wear the boot and carry these for camp.
Algae. Wet, slimy rock tests any shoe. Slow down and use your hands.
Cold weather. They are a warm-weather sandal. In winter they are a camp shoe.
Toes. They are open. Roots and rocks can find them.

Tan · 1 / 7
Tan, Olive, Black, Sage, Blue Granite, Violet and Pink. Pink is EU 45 only right now.
Can I hike in them?
Yes. A grippy TPR outsole, arch support and three adjustment points, so they handle rocky trails and creek crossings. They are not a boot. If the route needs ankle support, bring the boot and carry these for camp.
Do they have arch support?
Yes. The EVA midsole is built with arch support and a cushioned heel pad. It is standard arch support, the kind most feet want for a day of walking, rather than an orthotic.
What size should I get?
They run true to size, so pick your usual EU size. Sizes run EU 37 to 45 with no half sizes, and the sandal is unisex: the mens and womens listings are the same shoe. Wide feet, or between sizes, go up one.
Are they waterproof?
Water-friendly rather than waterproof. The recycled polyester webbing dries fast after river crossings, beach days and sudden downpours.
What if they break, or do not fit?
Our lifetime warranty, the Steadfast Guarantee, covers any defect in materials or workmanship for the life of the sandal: repaired, replaced or refunded. If they are not right when they arrive, you have 30 days to return them unworn with tags attached through the Returns Portal.
Comfortable at the end of a full day of walking
“My partner and I each packed a pair for a three-week trip and ended up wearing them almost every day. They were perfect for everything from hiking to swimming, beach walks to city exploring. Super comfy, no rubbing, and they dried fast after getting wet.”
