Highlands Tent: Cosy nights at the world’s first 5-billion star hotel

The Highlands Tent tested our design chops to the limit, but after 5 years of continual use, its durability, functionality and ongoing performance has earned it a special place in the Zorali story.

Because sleeping under stars stirs something in us all

We started working on the Highlands Tent prototype before Zorali was even a thing. Because camping out is pretty close to the ultimate expression of having fun outdoors. The vision: a durable, lightweight, 3-season tent with big double doors for gazing outside, near vertical walls for max liveability inside, and dual vestibules to keep campers and gear separated (and dry). Oh, and it needed to stack up to a lifetime warranty. Unsurprisingly, as total newcomers in the tent manufacturing world, at first we struggled to get anyone to take us seriously. But then we connected with an engineer friend Aaron, who instantly got the design intention, and was inspired to help us realise our vision.

Tried and tested in the Victorian High Country

After a whole lot of sketching, engineering, material sampling and testing, we landed on a design we loved, but we knew the proof would be in the performance. Our first field test of the tent — the Razorback Trail at Mount Hotham — delivered perfect Victorian conditions: wild winds, rain, hail and even a thunderstorm. Hunkering down in those hills, we were so happy it outperformed our expectations. That was the first of so many cosy nights we’ve spent in our Highlands Tent. After 5 years of hiking and camping, with just a few running repairs (using the complimentary repair kit) that original tent is still with us for every memorable outdoor adventure.

    Worst pitch ive ever had

Couple things i found wrong, annoying or just badly designed with this tent in comparison to similar tents i own in this price range.

Weak poles - just had it in scotland for the first time in 30kph winds (not much) and the poles and frame were bending to the point i was uncomfortable to sleep in it.

Air vents - can only be opened from the outside. Why not from the inside?

guy lines - (3 aside) why not 1 extra one in each corner? As the corners keep deforming in the slightest bit of wind.

Leaks - 1st time set up and there’s a small leak right from the top… not confidence inspiring.

Pitch setup - personally i think it’s a silly design of putting up the inner before the outer incase it’s raining but that aside, the plastic buckles are also silly because I imagine if it’s cold or icy these will freeze and either break or get stuck on.

(The list goes on) however it is a good size.

I would like to add that i would prefer to sleep in my euro tent 2ps and that cost me £60

    Brilliant little (big!) tent

Bought this tent for overnight hikes and as a car camping tent for one night stops.

Just used it a few times on a trip to Flinders Ranges. What a beauty!! We bought the footprint and highly recommend that you do as ground was really rocky in some places. The tent is a very easy set up. Inside the two of us had plenty of room. Things we loved most are - lots of pockets! The large doors on both sides of the tent. The large openings for each door. The height inside the tent - can easily sit up. Love that with the two sided opening, each person has their own vestibule. Haven’t tested it in rain or hiking, but for the nights we used it we just loved it. Oh also, we had one night with fly off looking at the stars! Magic!

    Amazing Moto Camping Tent

This tent is exactly what I was after, super easy and quick to set up and pack down. Lots of space inside and in the vestibules. The best thing is that it fits inside my pannier on my motorbike which is the big reason I got it. Lots of future moto camping to come
